About Guidewire

Guidewire develops and implements market-leading insurance software solutions. Our technology is unique: we offer a highly customizable and upgradable metadata-driven data model and user interface (UI) platform; a built-in integration layer that lets us connect cleanly to all kinds of legacy systems; a huge variety of sophisticated business features; and a completely modern architecture designed from the ground up for testability and scalability. It turns out that writing that kind of software to work for insurance companies worldwide is surprisingly complex and difficult to get exactly right. Understanding and rising to that challenge can be exciting!

Our products use a rich platform of XML workflows, scripting trigger points, programming APIs, and configurable appearance and behavior. We develop new leading edge technologies for our products, including a custom web application layer and persistent business data layer. We built the Gosu language to make us more productive, and it’s now freely available at http://gosu-lang.org.

The company is headquartered in Foster City, California and is publicly traded under the symbol GWRE.

About the Documentation Team

The documentation team creates and publishes content that helps people successfully deploy and customize Guidewire web applications. Our audience includes business analysts, technical consultants, CTOs, and various levels of programmers, who need to understand technical and business concepts as well as the use and configuration of our applications.

Our documentation is not consumer-level writing. Writers must deeply understand the end-to-end behavior of our product features and functionality as well as related configuration files and APIs. We work very closely with our development engineers and product managers. We regularly install product builds, dive into the code, and often figure out documentation needs even before we get any developer documentation.

Our custom production, validation, and automation tools enable writers to focus on learning complex information and writing about it, rather than on production work or investigating documentation build problems.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience writing documentation for enterprise software products
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Knowledge of web applications
  • Familiarity with Object Oriented Programming (OOP) and scripting languages
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, XML, and related web technologies
  • Ability to meet aggressive deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to elicit information from experts and learn by experimenting
  • Knowledge of standard industry practices in information development
  • Proficiency with authoring tools such as Adobe FrameMaker and ePublisher
  • BA/BS in Technical Writing, English, Computer Science, or related degree or comparable experience.

Preferably, candidates also have some of the following:

  • Ability to read and understand OOP code, ideally Java or JavaScript
  • Experience in an Agile environment
  • Experience transitioning from a non-structured to an XML-based structured authoring environment
  • Understanding of topic-based authoring, XML, DITA, and content delivery processes
  • Scripting skills and the ability to automate authoring and production tasks

Seem Like a Good Fit?
