The successful candidate will be passionate and driven to work on building new infrastructure and in being part of this critical top project at Rambus Cryptography Research security division.
Description:
Candidates will be based in the Sunnyvale office all 5 days of the week and should be willing to travel to the San Francisco office as needed.
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join our team of talented developers. The new team member will develop documentation for a maturing enterprise security product, CryptoManager. The information is published in a variety of forms and formats, including manuals, PDFs, end-user guides and on-line help. You will work closely with Subject Matter Experts and your fellow writers to revise existing DITA-authored, task-based documentation, and write new content for new product features.
Candidates must be able to rapidly develop expertise in CryptoManager. The successful candidate will be an expert at synthesizing technical information for maximum usefulness to enable our users to get the full value from our products and services quickly.
Responsibilities:
- Write clear, concise, and complete step-by-step procedures for technical products and solutions.
- Building product components in the Engineering development system (virtual machines, complex makefile dependencies, Git branches, etc.) so as to exercise new features.
- Gathering information independently from high-level design and test plan documents, engineering design meetings, and busy, distributed engineers.
- Writing all content in our TechPubs toolchain: DITA (authored in Oxygen), SVN version control and WebWorks ePublisher, per existing Tech Pubs style guides and procedures.
- Creating architecture, flow, and process diagrams to increase the visual/graphical content in existing text-heavy documentation.
- Editing user-facing product text, such as error messages, prompts, and UI labels.
- Managing the review process for revised and new content, with a team of very busy Subject Matter Experts. Collaborate with other team members on projects to ensure consistency.
- Filing and receiving bug ticket assignments in the Engineering bug tracking system.
- Meet all deadlines with high quality.
- Analyze existing and potential content for existing and new information deliverables, focusing on reuse and filtered single-sourcing opportunities.
- As information models and standards are refined, work with existing information to refactor and restructure the content to conform to the new requirements.
Skills/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, first degree, or equivalent experience in Technical Communications, Computer Science, or related field of study.
- 7+ years writing documentation for enterprise software, networking, security, semiconductor manufacturing, or similar.
- Portfolio showing a variety of user and developer documentation.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong technical skills with ability to quickly learn how the system works.
- Experience writing topic-based documentation in DITA environment with version control, CMS, and CCMS systems, XML authoring tools.
- Knowledge of C/C++, Java, XML, XSLT, CSS, and other programming languages, as well as the SDLC, a plus.
- Flexible and adaptable to change. Enthusiasm for learning new things.
- Experience with the following tools/processes a plus: Oxygen, SVN, Vasont, WebWorks ePublisher, Antenna House, Acrobat, Visio, Snagit, Agile development, JIRA, GIT, Doxygen (optional).
- Must be a savvy Technical Writer and able to get up to speed quickly.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, English, Communication required.
- Good team player and works with a small team of Tech Writers.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams across multiple sites.
- Advanced knowledge of relevant style guides and best practices.
- Flexibility: Adapts to management priorities. Responds to higher priority concerns. Maintains momentum even during changes. Proposes ways to lessen impact on previously assigned tasks.
